World War I
There were many causes for World War I. Three main for reasons are militarism, alliances, imperialism and nationalism. Many people believe the start of WWI was the assastionation of Archduke Franz Ferdinand in June 1914. Archduke was from Austria-Hungary, he was murdered by a group of Serbian terrorists that call themselves The Black Hand. Austria-Hungary then declared war on Serbia. Russia had an alliance with Serbia so they began to start and help and supply Serbia. This led Germany to declare war on Russia. After multiple countries had declared war on each other, other countries began joining in for different reasons. That's where the M.A.I.N acronym comes in. Some countries were joining in the fight because they thought their country was the best and should win and be known. Some joined because they wanted to take over new lands and explains their empire. Some joined because of alliances they had with other countries that could not be broken, so they went to help out, and some joined the war simply because they had a strong military and believed they would win because of it.
In WWI, a new method of fighting was being tested out. The method was called trance warfare. Trench warfare was very helpful in some aspects. For one example, the soldiers had a lower ground that they could stay in for shelter and safety instead of being out in the open. Trench warfare definitely had its disadvantages though and they outweigh the advantages. One huge problem was the spread of bacteria. When trenches were put into place soldiers did not get in and out of them, they stayed in them. This means that when the soldiers went to the bathroom or were sick, it all happened in the trench, which is also the same place that they would be sleeping later that night. This led to the spread of many diseases getting a very large number of soldiers sick. Another bug problem was rodents. Rodents live on and under the ground so of course if you're spending all you're time underground there will be rodents. Rats were a. if problem in particular. Rats were found all over trenches, getting many soldiers sick. One last very bad problem with trench warfare was trench foot. Since trenches were holes in the ground, whenever it would rain the water would fall into the trenches and just sit there with the soldiers. Soldiers were forced to stay in the puddles of water and mud for weeks and evens months leaving their feet with a horrible medical condition known as trench foot. Trenches although more safe in the fighting stand point, were a very ineffective, unsafe way of living. More soldiers died from diseases from trenches than actually being killed in action.
